The Feinwerk connector

The connector is a free Matomo plugin with the technical name FeinwerkMarketplaceConnector. It connects your Matomo instance to Feinwerk Plugins. The official Matomo Marketplace stays untouched and keeps working as usual.

Benefits

  • One-click installation: all plugins are listed in Matomo under Administration → Plugins → Feinwerk Plugins, with search, categories, prices and screenshots.
  • One-click updates, automatic if you like: for each plugin you can decide that updates are installed on their own.
  • Update notices: the connector checks for new versions every day. On top, you get a weekly email listing all available updates for your instances.
  • Only compatible versions: you are only offered versions that match your Matomo and PHP version.
  • Verified downloads: every file is checked against its SHA-256 checksum before it is installed.
  • Information right in Matomo: license status and term, features, plans and the version history of every plugin.
  • Warning before database changes: versions that change tables are flagged, so you can update large instances in a maintenance window.
  • Support from within Matomo: Report a problem sends us a bug report with up to three screenshots.
  • Resilient: if the store cannot be reached, the connector shows the last loaded data. Installed plugins keep running in any case.
  • License checks: paid features check their license through the connector.

Installation

First download the connector: plugins.feinwerk.io/connector/download. The ZIP file contains the folder FeinwerkMarketplaceConnector. Then choose one of four ways.

Option A: upload in Matomo

Matomo only allows uploading plugins when this is enabled in the configuration. Add to config/config.ini.php:

[General]
enable_plugin_upload = 1

Then open the Matomo Marketplace under Administration → Platform → Marketplace, upload the ZIP file via Upload a plugin and activate the plugin.

Option B: via SFTP or SSH

Unzip the file into the plugins/ directory of your Matomo installation so that the folder plugins/FeinwerkMarketplaceConnector exists. Then activate the connector under Administration → Plugins → Manage Plugins.

Option C: command line

cd /path/to/matomo/plugins
wget -O connector.zip https://plugins.feinwerk.io/connector/download
unzip connector.zip && rm connector.zip
chown -R www-data:www-data FeinwerkMarketplaceConnector
cd .. && ./console plugin:activate FeinwerkMarketplaceConnector

Replace www-data with the user your web server runs as.

Option D: Docker

Mount the FeinwerkMarketplaceConnector folder as a volume at /var/www/html/plugins/FeinwerkMarketplaceConnector or copy it into your own image. Then activate it inside the container:

docker exec -it <container> ./console plugin:activate FeinwerkMarketplaceConnector

For the connector to install further plugins with one click, the plugins/ directory inside the container must be writable. With read-only images, install plugins as described in Installing plugins.

Setup

  1. In your customer account, add your Matomo instance under My instances and copy the token. You can look it up any time via Show token.
  2. In Matomo, open Administration → System → General settings and find the FeinwerkMarketplaceConnector section.
  3. Enter https://plugins.feinwerk.io as Marketplace URL and your token as Instance token. Save the settings.
  4. Open Administration → Plugins → Feinwerk Plugins. As soon as the plugin list appears, the connection works.

Automatic updates

In the same settings section, pick from a list under Auto-apply updates for these plugins the plugins whose updates the connector installs on its own during the daily check. All other plugins are updated with one click under Feinwerk Plugins.

The connector never installs an update that changes the database automatically, not even for plugins on this list. It holds the update back and shows a notice on the plugin pages, and on the Manage tab the plugin carries the badge Database update. You then install it yourself under Feinwerk Plugins, and Matomo runs the database update in a controlled way. Larger database changes are also announced with a notice on the plugin's product page.

Plugins installed as a git checkout or through a symlink (development setups) are never changed by the connector, neither by a click nor automatically. They carry the badge Development checkout.

Updating the connector

When a new connector version is available, Feinwerk Plugins shows a notice with a button to update. The connector never updates itself on its own, only on that click. Settings and token are kept. Alternatively, replace the FeinwerkMarketplaceConnector folder with the one from the new ZIP, as during installation.

Removing the connector

Deactivate and uninstall the connector under Administration → Plugins → Manage Plugins. Plugins you already installed keep running; you then install their updates manually. You can revoke the token in your customer account.
