Overview
Analyze your blog, shop or help center separately: define areas of your website once by URL pattern and get separate reports for each of them.
The problem
Matomo shows pages, entry pages and events for the whole website. If you want to look at one part of it, such as the blog, the shop or the help center, you usually build a segment. A segment selects visits, though, not pages: the pages reports then list every page of those visits, including the ones outside the area.
The solution
With PageFilterReport you define sections once, by URL prefix or regular expression. For every section, the plugin automatically creates filtered reports that appear in the reporting menu under Sections.
Features
Reports per section
- Pages Summary, Entry Pages Summary and Exit Pages Summary: the figures for the whole area in one row, such as pageviews, bounce rate and exit rate
- Pages, Entry Pages and Exit Pages: hierarchical like Behaviour → Pages, with expandable folders
- Events: events on the section's pages, broken down by event category, event action and event name
- Channels: the channel types of visits that viewed pages in the section
Flexible URL patterns
- Prefix: the page path must start with the pattern, such as
/blog/ - Regex: regular expressions with delimiters, such as
/\/(de|en)\/help\// - Several patterns per section, one per line
- Hostname (optional), when one Matomo website tracks several domains
Works like the rest of Matomo
- The usual metrics, plus goal metrics for entry pages and channels
- Flatten report, export, row evolution and email reports
- On the goals and ecommerce pages, sections appear under Goals by Sections and Sales by Sections
Permissions
- Users with at least Write permission manage sections under Administration → Websites → Manage Sections
- Everyone with access to the website sees the reports
Archiving
- Nothing is tracked twice: the reports are built during normal archiving from the data Matomo already has
- Older periods are filled in with one command:
./console feinwerkpagefilterreport:archive --date=2026-01-01,2026-09-30

Requirements
- Matomo 5
Upgrading from PageFilterReport
Up to version 1.x this plugin was called PageFilterReport. Install and activate FeinwerkPageFilterReport: it takes over all sections, email reports and saved report views, and removes the old plugin automatically. Do not uninstall PageFilterReport yourself, as that would delete the section definitions.
Use cases
- Reports per section: Docs, shop, blog: each section gets its own Pages, Entry Pages, Exit Pages and Events reports, hierarchical and expandable.
- One-time setup: Create a section with a URL prefix or regex, and that's it. The filtered reports appear automatically with the next archiving run.
- Feels like core Matomo: The same hierarchical tables, subtables and exports you already know, just scoped to the section you care about.
Step-by-step setup
How to install the plugin is covered in Installing plugins. Inside Matomo the plugin is called "Section Reports", and an area of your website is called a section.
-
Open the admin page. Select the website and open Administration → Websites → Manage Sections. The same entry sits at the bottom of the Sections group in the reporting menu. Both are visible to users with at least Write permission for the website.
-
Create a section. Click Create New Section and fill in the form:
- Name: shown in the menu and in front of every report title, for example "Blog".
- Hostname (optional): only pages on this hostname are included. Enter it without
www., soexample.com. - URL Patterns: one pattern per line, several lines are combined with OR. Without regex, the page path must start with the pattern, for example
/blog/. - Use Regex: treats the patterns as regular expressions with delimiters, such as
/\/(de|en)\/help\//.
-
Save. After Save, the section appears in the list. The person who created it and administrators of the website can edit or delete it.
-
Open the reports. The reporting menu gets one entry per section under Sections. It contains Pages Summary, Entry Pages Summary and Exit Pages Summary with the figures for the whole area in one row, followed by Pages, Entry Pages, Exit Pages, Events and Channels. The tables are hierarchical like Behaviour → Pages, can be flattened, exported and added to email reports.
-
Fill in the history. Matomo's normal archiving builds the section reports from its next run on. For past periods, rebuild them in your Matomo directory:
./console feinwerkpagefilterreport:archive --date=2026-01-01,2026-09-30 ./console feinwerkpagefilterreport:archive --date=2026-01-01,2026-09-30 --idsites=1 --disable-segments--dateis required and takes a single day or a range.--idsitesselects websites (default: all),--periodsthe period types (day, week, month, year, default: all). Without further options, the command processes "All visits" and the pre-processed segments.--disable-segmentslimits it to "All visits",--segmenttakes specific segments (definition, name or ID). The command only adds the section reports to existing archives. Periods without an archive are skipped with a notice; run Matomo's normal archiving for them first.
Practical examples
Blog, shop and help side by side. Create three sections with /blog/, /shop/ and /help/. The summaries show pageviews, average time on page, bounce rate and exit rate for each area, without searching through the full page list.
Entry pages per area. A section's Entry Pages report shows which articles or product pages visits start on, with bounce rate and, if you like, goals. The Channels report adds which channel types (such as search engines, websites or campaigns) brought visits that viewed pages in the area.
Combining multilingual areas. If your help lives under /de/hilfe/, /en/help/ and /fr/aide/, enter the three paths as three lines. One section then shows all languages together.
Several hostnames in one website. If one Matomo website tracks example.com and shop.example.com, the Hostname field separates the areas, even when the paths look alike.
Events in an area. The Events report shows events triggered on the section's pages, broken down by category, action and name. That way you see downloads or video plays in the help area only, for example.
Good to know
- What is matched: patterns apply to the URL path, without domain and without parameters after the
?. Upper and lower case matter; with regex, theimodifier helps. The prefix/blogalso matches/blog-archive/, while/blog/is more precise. - Archiving: section reports are built during normal archiving for "All visits". Each section adds a little archiving time because its reports are calculated in addition. With a segment applied, the pages, entry, exit and events reports only show data if you built them for that segment with the command above. The Channels report is filtered from Matomo's channel types when you open it.
- Changing patterns: new archiving runs use the new patterns right away. Past periods keep the old figures until you run the command for them again.
- Permissions: users with at least Write permission can create sections, and everyone with access to the website sees the reports.
- Visitor log: the segmented visitor log row action is hidden in section reports because it does not filter by section. Row evolution is available.
- Troubleshooting: if a section stays empty, check the patterns (does the path really start like that?), the hostname and whether archiving has run since you created it. For older periods, run
feinwerkpagefilterreport:archive. More in Troubleshooting.

FAQ
Who can create sections?
Users with at least Write permission on the website manage sections. Everyone with access to the website sees the filtered reports.
Prefix or regex?
Both. Simple prefixes such as /blog/ cover most cases; regular expressions are there when you need precision.
Does it duplicate my data?
No. Nothing is tracked twice: the section reports are built during normal archiving from the data Matomo already has.
Can I see data from before I created a section?
Yes. One console command builds the section reports for past periods that Matomo has already archived.
