DashboardSharing
Share a Matomo dashboard with specific users or everyone. They get a read-only copy that updates itself every time they open it, instead of a one-off snapshot.

Overview
DashboardSharing lets you share a Matomo dashboard with other users. Your colleagues see it read-only and always in your current version, instead of a one-off copy that goes stale the moment you change the original.
Matomo can only pass a dashboard on with Copy dashboard to user. That needs admin access and creates a snapshot: change the original afterwards and the recipient never sees it. DashboardSharing keeps the shared dashboard connected to your original instead.
Features
- Share with anyone: share a dashboard with all users or with specific users, under a name of your choice for the recipients.
- One-click subscribe: your colleagues add the shared dashboard to their own dashboard list with one click.
- Always current: every time a subscriber opens it, the subscription takes over your current state: widgets and layout and, with DashboardSegment installed, each widget's segment and time range.
- Read-only: subscribers see who the dashboard comes from and cannot change it. If you stop sharing, they keep the last version they received.
- Works on its own: no other plugin required. Install DashboardSegment alongside it and shared dashboards also carry each widget's segment and time range.
How it works
DashboardSharing only adds to Matomo: it changes no files of Matomo or of the bundled Dashboard plugin, so it survives Matomo updates.
- Sharing is available to signed-in users with at least view access to the website. For viewers who are not signed in it stays idle.
- A subscription is the recipient's own dashboard that mirrors yours; it is refreshed from your current version each time it is opened.
Requirements
- Matomo 5
- PHP 8.1 or newer
- The bundled Dashboard plugin (active by default).
- Optional: DashboardSegment, to carry per-widget segments and time ranges across a share.
Installation
With one click through the Feinwerk connector or as a ZIP file, see Installing plugins.
Usage
- Open a dashboard.
- Use Share this dashboard to share it with everyone or specific users, under a name of your choice.
- Other users open Import a shared dashboard, pick yours and subscribe.
- From then on they always see your current version, read-only.
License
Free plugin under GPL v3 or later.
Use cases
- Up to date, not a snapshot: Matomo's "Copy dashboard to user" is a one-off snapshot and needs admin rights. A shared dashboard stays connected to your original and shows your current version every time it is opened.
- One dashboard for the team: Build a dashboard once and let your colleagues subscribe. They always see your latest layout and widgets, without you re-sending anything.
- Read-only by design: Subscribers see where the dashboard comes from and can't change it. Stop sharing and they simply keep the last version they received.
- Better together with segments: With DashboardSegment installed, a shared dashboard also carries each widget's own segment and time range.
DashboardSharing shares Matomo dashboards with other users. Recipients subscribe to a copy of their own that is read-only and synchronised with your original every time they open it. Matomo itself can only pass a dashboard on with Copy dashboard to user: a user with admin access pushes a one-off copy to another user. With DashboardSharing, recipients subscribe themselves and stay connected to the original.
Step-by-step setup
Installation is covered in Installing plugins. When you activate DashboardSharing, it creates the tables it needs. There is no settings page, everything happens on the dashboard itself. You need Matomo 5 and the bundled Dashboard plugin, which is active by default.
1. Share a dashboard
Every signed-in user can share their own dashboards. Above the widgets of each of your own dashboards you find the buttons Share this dashboard and Import a shared dashboard. Open the dashboard you want to share and click Share this dashboard:
- Under Name for recipients, enter the name your colleagues will see.
- Under Who can subscribe to it, choose All users or Specific users. Enter the logins, separated by commas, under Or enter logins. With admin access, a list appears as well in which you tick the users.
Click Share to release the dashboard.
2. Manage your shares
At the bottom of the Share this dashboard dialog, My shares lists every dashboard you have shared, each with its recipients and number of subscribers. Stop sharing withdraws a share; nobody can subscribe to that dashboard any more.
3. Subscribe to a shared dashboard
Your colleagues open one of their own dashboards and click Import a shared dashboard above the widgets. It lists every dashboard shared with them. Subscribe adds one to their own dashboards.
In the dashboard menu on the left, the copy carries a people icon (from version 1.0.2); point at it to see Synced from …. Above the widgets of the copy it says: This dashboard is synced from … and is read-only. Its widgets and layout cannot be changed, and the share and import buttons are hidden.
4. Stay current and unsubscribe
Every time it is opened, the copy is synchronised with your original. If you change a widget, your colleagues see the new version the next time they open the dashboard. Unsubscribe, right next to the notice above the widgets, removes the copy from a subscriber's dashboards.
5. Optional: together with DashboardSegment
If DashboardSegment is installed as well, subscribers also get the segments and time ranges you gave individual widgets, so they see the dashboard filtered exactly like you do. DashboardSharing does not need DashboardSegment and works on its own.
Practical examples
A campaign dashboard for the team. You build a dashboard with the key campaign reports and share it with your marketing team via Specific users. When a report is added, you add it once, and the whole team sees it the next time they open the dashboard.
A starter dashboard for new colleagues. You share an overview dashboard with All users. New colleagues subscribe with one click instead of putting a dashboard together themselves.
Passing on segmented views. With DashboardSegment, each widget on your dashboard shows its own segment, smartphone next to desktop, for example. Your colleagues subscribe and see the same comparisons without setting up the segments themselves.
Good to know
- Synchronised on opening: the copy picks up your changes when the subscriber opens the dashboard, not while it is already open.
- Share stopped or original deleted: subscribers keep the last version they received, but it is no longer synchronised. If the owner deletes the original with Matomo's Remove dashboard, its shares end as well; if a subscriber removes their copy the same way, their subscription ends. After Stop sharing, the copy becomes an ordinary dashboard of the subscriber's own, without read-only mode and notice. New subscriptions are no longer possible.
- The layout is shared, not the data: what is passed on are the widgets and their layout, with DashboardSegment also each widget's segment and time range. Every subscriber sees the numbers with their own permissions, so only for websites they can access in Matomo, and always for the website selected at the top.
- Only your own dashboards: you can share the dashboards of your own login. A subscribed copy is read-only; changes are always made to the original.
- Stored data: the plugin keeps shares and subscriptions in tables of its own.
- No changes to Matomo: DashboardSharing modifies neither Matomo itself nor the bundled Dashboard plugin, so it survives Matomo updates.

FAQ
How is this different from "Copy dashboard to user"?
Matomo's copy is a one-off snapshot and needs admin access; later changes to the original never reach the recipient. A shared dashboard stays connected to your original and always shows your current version.
Do I need admin rights to share?
No. Any signed-in user with at least view access to the website can share and subscribe.
Can subscribers change the dashboard?
No. Subscriptions are read-only. If you stop sharing, subscribers keep the last version they received.
Does it carry segments and time ranges?
On its own it shares widgets and layout. With DashboardSegment installed, it also carries each widget's segment and time range across the share.
Does it change my existing dashboards?
No. It only adds the share and subscribe controls; nothing changes until you share a dashboard.
